LUBBOCK, Texas (special) – Sure, former Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Dorsett could shake past defensive backs, but can he shake the perfect amount of paprika on his poultry? And are we certain former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl “Moose” Johnston’s fans weren’t actually making “mousse” calls, complimenting his dessert-making skills? These questions and more will be answered, as Market Street and ESPN Radio present “Cooking with the Legends” – a reality TV cooking series broadcast in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The 30-minute show will air Saturdays at noon CDT, starting Aug. 30, on WFAA-TV (Channel 8).
Contestants on the cooking series will team up with football legends and a sous chef from The Mansion on Turtle Creek to take part in a culinary competition. In addition to Dorsett and Johnston, former Cowboys Drew Pearson, Randy White, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Bill Bates, Charles Haley, Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris will be appearing on the cooking series.
“United Supermarkets and its Dallas-Fort Worth area Market Street stores have opened their pantries for the preparation of gourmet meals and other delicious items in this unique TV competition,” said United Supermarkets CEO Dan Sanders. “After the contestants have huddled with their favorite football legends and a world-class chef, the cooking team will maneuver throughout the kitchen and tackle the finest recipes the kitchen has to offer. It’s a great opportunity for football and culinary fans to check out how well these gridiron greats can cook and learn a few tips to make those meals-at-home shine.”
Three contestants for the culinary show were selected through a random drawing at local Market Street locations – world-class food concept stores located in Allen, Colleyville, McKinney and Frisco. The Metroplex’s ESPN Radio affiliate, 103.3 FM, auctioned the other seven contestant spots, with all proceeds going to Tony and Janet Dorsett’s Star Children’s Charity and Gift for Life Foundation.
“Cooking with the Legends” will twice re-air on WFAA’s sister station, KFWD-TV (Channel 52), on Saturday evenings.
In addition, Frisco’s Market Street opened its doors Wednesday, and will celebrate its grand opening over the next two weeks with renowned calligraphy expert Ken Brown engraving purchased wine bottles on Friday, Disney’s Summer Games, featuring Hannah Montana’s “Jake Ryan,” actor Cody Linley, on Saturday and the “Back-to-School Bash” featuring Cajun swamp rock band L’Angelus on Sept. 6, all of which will take place at the Frisco store.
